Carbide, Tungsten & Molybdenum Scrap We Buy
Machine shops and manufacturers build up worn carbide tools and inserts, tungsten parts, and moly offcuts. We buy carbide, tungsten, and molybdenum (moly) and all of their alloys. Our minimum is generally 500 lb and up per load for tungsten and moly, and 100 lb and up for carbide.

Carbide, tungsten and moly we buy
We buy these metals and their alloys. Below is what we see most often.
Tungsten carbide
Worn, broken, or surplus cemented carbide tooling and wear parts.
Carbide tooling and parts we buy
- Carbide tools and inserts: worn, broken, or new surplus
- Solid carbide end mills, drills, reamers, and burrs
- Carbide rods and blanks
- Carbide dies and wear parts
- Carbide saw tips and mining bits
- Circuit-board (PCB) drills
- Other solid ("hard") carbide pieces
- Carbide-tipped saw blades
- Carbide roll rings
- Carbide blast nozzles
- Carbide buttons (from rock drill and oilfield bits)
- Carbide sludge and powder
Tungsten
Pure tungsten, tungsten-copper, and tungsten electrodes.
Tungsten grades and parts we buy
- Pure tungsten rod, sheet, and wire
- Tungsten-copper electrodes
- Tungsten TIG electrodes: pure, lanthanated, and ceriated
- Tungsten furnace parts: heat shields, crucibles, and heating elements
Molybdenum (moly) and moly alloys
Moly is rarely pure. Most moly scrap is mill shapes, moly alloys, or furnace parts.
Moly grades and parts we buy
- Moly sheet, plate, rod, bar, and wire
- TZM (titanium-zirconium-molybdenum alloy)
- Lanthanated moly (Mo-La) and moly-tungsten (Mo-W)
- Moly furnace and hot-zone parts: heat shields, boats, and crucibles
- Moly glass-melting electrodes
- Moly sputtering targets (from semiconductor, display, and solar coating lines)
- Moly-copper (MoCu) heat spreaders
- Moly spray wire and EDM wire
Moly-bearing steels (chrome-moly, M-series HSS, 316 stainless) are bought within their own families. See ferrous, tool steel & HSS, and stainless.
Tool steel and high-speed steel
We also buy tool steel and HSS, often from the same shops. Keep it separate from carbide.
Forms we buy
Inserts · Solid tooling · Rods · Blanks · Dies · Wear parts · Sheet · Plate · Bar · Wire · Electrodes · Furnace parts · Offcuts · Solids · Assemblies
We don't buy metal in dust form (carbide sludge and powder excepted).
Some materials we never buy, in any form. See what we don't buy.
How to describe your material
- Material: carbide, tungsten, moly, or mixed.
- Type: inserts, end mills, drills, rods, wear parts, sheet, or furnace parts.
- New surplus or used.
- Mixed or kept separate.
- Coatings or other attachments.
- Oil or coolant on the material.
What to send for a quote
- Material and type (or "mixed")
- Approximate weight
- Location (city, state)
- One-time or ongoing
- Photos
Keep it separate to protect its value
- Keep carbide apart from HSS and other tool steel.
- Keep each material apart where you can: carbide, tungsten, and moly.
Load size
Our minimums are generally:
- Carbide, including carbide sludge and powder: 100 lb and up per load
- Tungsten and moly, including TZM: 500 lb and up per load
- Tool steel and HSS: 2,000–4,000 lb per load
Frequently asked questions
Do you buy worn or broken carbide inserts?
Yes. We buy carbide inserts worn, broken, or new surplus, plus solid carbide end mills, drills, and other tooling.
Should I keep HSS separate from carbide?
Yes. We buy both. Keep them apart.
Do you buy moly alloys like TZM?
Yes. We buy moly and its alloys, including TZM, in sheet, plate, rod, bar, and wire.
Do you take smaller loads?
Yes. We do buy loads below our minimums, but increasing the weight per load will offer you a better return. Call 248.717.0005 to ask.
