Stainless & Specialty Steel Scrap We Buy
Manufacturers, fabricators, and machine shops generate stainless steel, chrome stainless, and specialty steel as solids and turnings. We buy stainless and all of its alloys, from 300-series grades to chrome stainless and duplex. Tell us the grade if you know it, or tell us it's mixed. Our minimum is generally 2,000–4,000 lb per load for stainless steel, depending on grade; 10,000 lb for chrome stainless; and 500 lb and up for specialty steels such as duplex, A286, maraging, Invar, and Kovar.

Forms we buy
- Solids: sheet, plate, clip, bar, rod, tube, wire, punchings, and assemblies
- Turnings: turnings, borings, and chips
Prepared stainless and specialty steel solids are under 4 ft in length, width, and height, under 2,000 lb per piece, and clean. See prepared or unprepared.
We don't buy metal in dust form.
Some materials we never buy, in any form. See what we don't buy.
How to describe your material
The more you tell us, the faster we can quote:
- Grade, if you know it (for example, 304, 316, 17-4, 410, or Duplex 2205). "Unknown" or "mixed" is a fine answer.
- Stainless, chrome stainless, or specialty steel. Chrome stainless (409 through 440, plus 446) is also called chrome steel.
- Low-carbon or cast grades: say if it's 304L / 316L, or cast stainless (CF8, CF8M).
- Form: solids or turnings.
- Prepared or unprepared (solids), using our standard.
- Oil or coolant on turnings.
- Mill certs or heat numbers, if you have them.
Keep it separate to protect its value
- Keep 316 apart from 304, since 316 carries molybdenum.
- Keep 321, 347, 17-4 and other grades apart where you can.
- Keep chrome stainless apart from other stainless grades.
- Keep each specialty steel alloy apart where you can.
Frequently asked questions
Do you buy chrome stainless (400 series)?
Yes: 409, 409Ni, 410, 416, 416Se, 420, 430, 431, 439, 440, and 446. It's also called chrome steel. Keep it apart from other stainless grades.
Why keep 316 apart from 304?
316 carries molybdenum, so keep it apart from 304. Do the same for 321, 347, 17-4, and other grades where you can.
Do you buy duplex and other specialty steels?
Yes, including Duplex 2205, 2507 (super duplex), A286, maraging steel, Invar, and Kovar. Open the specialty steel list above for the rest.
Do you buy cast stainless?
Yes, including CF8 and CF8M.
